A noble order of protectors unified by their belief and observance of The Force, the Jedi hearken back to a more civilized, classical time in galactic history. Their order is ancient, spanning over a thousand generations. As the Galactic Republic throve and grew over the centuries, the Jedi came to serve it as guardians of peace and justice.

Players cannot play a Jedi character unless they have "unlocked" that ability by going through the "Jedi trials." Doing so allows a player to train Jedi-related skills and to create a second character on the server their Jedi character plays on.

Becoming a Jedi

Pre-CU There were two systems at different times through Pre-CU which allowed a player to obtain a Jedi, the first system was commonly known as the Hologrind and the second later system was known as The Village.

The Hologrind

Players who wished to become a Jedi under the hologrind system had to effectively grind out a series of professions. The name Hologrind came from the holocron which acted as a method of revealing what professions to master in order to become closer to becoming Jedi. However holocrons would only reveal 4 professions which the player must master, after this point it becomes "silent" and the player is left to figure out what to master on their own.

An example of a hologrind would be this

  • Player X receives a holocron, the holocron tells him to master A
  • Player X masters A and receives another holocron which tells him to master B
  • Player X masters B and receives another holocron which tells him to master C
  • Player X masters C and receives another holocron which tells him to master D
  • Player X masters D and receives another holocron, this time the holocron is silent and signals that no further clues will be offered towards what to master to receive his Jedi
  • Player X grinds out a series of professions and eventually receives a system message telling him him he has unlocked Jedi

Each players professions which had to be mastered were different, no two people had the same professions path to Jedi.

The Hologrind was removed with Publish 10 and replaced with "The Village"

Notes:

  • The only professions not included in the hologrind are politician and any of the JTL professions.
  • After a holocron revealed what profession to master, or was silent it would be "used up" and disappeared from your inventory.
  • Holocrons were not necessary for completing the hologrind, but aided in speeding up the unlocking process.

The Village

Players with aspirations of becoming a Jedi must complete a very long series of quests and skill advancements which may take a better part of a year to complete. These quests will take a player from a rudimentary understanding of the Force to a full-featured Jedi Knight with a wide variety of abilities. Players must go through the following steps in order to turn their characters into Jedi:

  • The first step to becoming a Jedi is Becoming Force Sensitive.
  • Once your character has become sensitive to the Force, they will receive thier first visit from the Old Man. His first visit will start them on a small quest that will grant your character access to the Village of Aurilia.

Jedi characters can choose to train skills from five disciplines. Each discipline focuses on a traditional MMORPG player role and grants powerful abilities related to that role. Each profession has abilities every Jedi wants, but with a limited number of skill points each player must pick and choose which skills they train based on the role they wish to play.

Bounty Hunters

In SWG, it is common for Jedi to be hunted by Bounty Hunters. Currently the only way to get a player bounty in the game is for a Bounty Hunter to get a mission for a player Jedi. To avoid having a misison generated on a Bounty Hunter Mission Terminal, a Jedi must not gain visibility, which is acquired by using a lightsaber or force abilities within view of other players or NPC's. Many Jedi being hunted protect themselves by staying in their private house unless Grinding Jedi experience.
