New graphic card.

I'm thinking about acquiring a new graphic card.

I've had my eyes on this one for a while:
ATI X1550 Pro, 512MB.

I'm wondering if any of you guys got any idea of how good it is so answers is appriciated.

if you're on a budget, then maybe, but if you're paying over 90 quid for it you're getting ripped, and personally i only use nvidia cards...unless i'm strapped for cash.

that said the new...erm...fuck, can't remember its name. 2800XTX (i think) is rumoured to be twice as powerful as the 8800GTX, and half the price.

I've been through 4 ATI cards (can't remember all the numbers) but i've been through 6 nvidia cards and the nvidia cards have ALWAYS come up superior.

Well, I am lost. Heres my specifics:

I have AGP, not PCI-E so I got some trouble finding a good card. I don't want to spend too much money on a card so anything above 512mb is out of the question for now.

Can you come up with some good suggestions for me?

For AGP, go for ATI, for PCI-E go for ATI
AGP: 1950 PRO PCI-E: 2900XT
Nothing comes close the 1950 on the AGP. the 1950 comes as a 256 and a 512, I would go for the 512 since it isent very expensive. but make sure you have a 450 PSU or forget it. Then just go for the one you wanted. Its a decent card. not to great, but good enough.
And for PCI-E nVidia is over rated(That is if you like image quality)

tbh, anything over 450W is pretty much standard now, so I don't see why not, you probably could run it on a 350...but I wouldn't set out to do so.

I got 230V~ and 3A. I've been told you have to multiply V~ with A so I got 690 W. Anyway, I got enough. Thanks y'all. I'll buy the XFX Graphics GF 7300GT 512MB DDR2 - AGP card.

Go for the 1950 card, the 7800GS dosent even get close to it. so the 7600 isent something to waste your cash for, the 1950 is the best card for AGP, and its 512
And its a myth that nVidia is way better then ATI. Thay are pretty much the same cards, only ATI got better image qual
The problem with getting the ATI 1950 card is that the rest of your computer might be a bottlenack for it, since your on AGP. But its the best card for AGP atm

there is one reason, and one reason only why Nvidia cards are better than ATI cards, and its been shown time after time for about the past 3 years.

ATI Cards have grunt - no denying that
But nvidia cards have the grunt AND the technology to back it up, they support more advanced shaders/vertexers/engines/anything you can think of, so yes a nvidia card may be less powerful on paper, but in practise, esp. over a 1-2 year period, they win out everytime. ATI is here and now, NVIDIA is for the longer haul.

tbh all the 8800gtx card's are the same...

If you wanna go with any version it would be evga since they give a lifetime guarantee in america 10 year anywhere else and have teamed up with nvidia so are basically a sister company to it...

Are you sure your PSU is 690 watts? Just because that's what it inputs doesn't mean that it outputs that much power. PSU's have never had 100% efficiency. The best I've seen was 85% though the average is more likely to be 60%-70%. Also, nvidia cards may be better but nvidia forgot to have a quality assurance department for thier drivers. Most nvidia fanboys have to format everytime they update thier drivers because they crash windows.

mines 650w and 85% efficent and runs everything...

But i still class it as a 650w psu :P
