Get up at 8am, get ready and eat by 8.45am. Get on an overcrowded train to north London. Read Plato for an hour, get off walk in rain up that annoyingly steep hill past the old Highbury stadium. Spend three hours being lectured about imperialism and race and having a load of black people reeling off about how the British government should apologise for the slave trade. After that, down the hill, on the tube, read again and back home by around 2pm. Not so bad. I don't have to do much work but it's because of that it's so mind numbing. Day dreaming ftw.

That's what I thought but many people are spurred on by the fact that Billy Clinton caved in and made an apology on behalf of America. One black girl said that &quot;we&quot; (she was referring to those descended from Africans) should just forgive and forget, move on. But there was a fiery rebuke from a 50 year black woman who's in my class who reeled off about reparations, education etc in such a fervent and unwieldy manner that it shook the other girl and woke up most of the class. It's just such an absurd idea unless unless she's a descendent of someone subjugated by slavery. I'm all for unity and a sense of belonging but the way she presented herself just (I must say) make me draw a comparison between her and a BNP spokesman. She was talking about the &quot;the white man&quot; being responsible for slavery, like every white person on the planet should apologise. I don't even think &quot;white&quot; and &quot;black&quot; truly exist - they're just labels and if she can't make the distinction herself then she's just as bad as the BNP. Britain is nation built my immigrants - my family were most likely ploughing fields in Eastern Europe somewhere at the time of the slave trade was going on, so why should I (or anyone on my behalf) apologise?
