That reminds me... on my skiing trip last week, I lived at a small hotel in the little pos town we always stay in, and so we ride the bus to the slopes every morning. In itself not a problem. So anyway, I get on the bus, and sit down at the very front of the bus, with ski-boots and all geared up. The bus takes off, and stops some minutes later, at another entry/exit point. A whole group of people are waiting to get on. I look at some of them, and they sort of strike me as odd looking. One kid has a ski mask and a hut pulled all the way down, so just his nose sticks out. He looks retarded at best. Mere seconds later, I found out that he is just that. All of them are. Fuck me, thinks I. This has god bad news written all over it. Anyway, the most physically handicapped of them is yanked into the bus by some helper dude who then asks me to please allow her my seat. I'm baffled, puzzled... even mildly perplexed, but just in sheer amazement, I get up and allow her to be maneuvret into the seat. And this is where it strikes me... if she can't walk by herself, what on God's greenest of earths is she doing in a ski bus heading to the fucking slopes... Is she going to go skiing? Will the helper just yank her to the top of the slope, point her towards the bottom and push her off? I had to control myself in order not to laugh out loud at them. They were funny little fuckers too. Some of them speeding around like Beelzebub himself was whipping them on. I never saw them later on, so either the entire crew hit an avalance and died, or they went home quickly after, realizing they had been fighting a losing battle since birth.

Exactly. Our Army branch keeps lowering it's minimum standards to allow people in to serve. People who would normally, due to mental or physical issues, be left on the bases, are put on the front lines and given automatic rifles and grenades. I wouldn't say that about A-10 pilots, since training to become a pilot is kinda difficult in the Air Force. (My father was in the USAF for 20 years, and I always lived about a block away from a base. so I'd constantly go wander around the Air Force base with my pass card and look at boring crap. I did annoy the doctors at the base hospital quite a few times, though. Ahh call buttons, what great fun...)

So, again, it's not the soldiers who are actually responsible, it's the higher-ups yet again for deciding to lower standards. :/
