Right,

so im a fanny hair's off passing me driving test

and as a super dupery reward, im getting a new car, (supposidly 'sharing' it with my mum? fat chance, she can pay for all the petrol though)

Since we dont 'need another one' im only getting around 6,000 to spend

I couldnt give a toss about the sound system

I dont give a rat's arse about its 0-60

All i want is something alright to drive and practical

Any ideas?

Been thinking citroen c2, fiat punto/panda, ford fiesta

Alot better off if you crash as you aren't in a tiny piece of shit that will cripple you.

focus's are lovely cars to drive. very easy and relaxing they're not all that "sporty" but if you just drive to get to where your going and not drive for the sake of driving then a focus is a good call or a mondeo but a good spec mondeo (with all the gadgets etc) will set you back more than 6k

Like hinch said the focus is good, just make sure you get a ghia... the zetecs and LX versions are pretty shite imo

never been one for the fancy suped up cars (though my brother's an idiot and spent about 10 grand turning his saxo into something resembling a shuttle from star trek). Something a decent size, reasonably engine and comfy to drive. I like my Primera personally.

[b:00d8f]Your idea is the best snack stay small and new .

warranty , cheap insurance , low maintenance , low fuel costs > all

the panda is pretty much trumping everything at the moment and winning bags of awards , as long as you dont thrash little cars they will last you as long as you need them and will hold their residuals when selling on , by which time you will have earned good NCB to up the stakes a bit on your next car instead of spending grandage on insurance for no reason [/b:00d8f]

You dont give a rats arse about the sound system and 0-60? THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS?

Are you barking san? Get a 1.4 engine ATLEAST, or 1.6 like me (first car, 306). Then get 3rd party insurance, and rag the fucker.

Its your first car for fuck sake, you settle down and drive normally when you purchase a different one.

[b:0d2e9]cars are money sinks its about how much you want to put into them to be fair , if you want no worries new cars are the way to go and trade in before warranty is up everytime if you can afford it , if not cheap as chips is the way forward but you run the gauntlet of your car falling to bits and you having to outlay more money to fix it or replace it unexpectantly[/b:0d2e9]

In Sweden every car has to go through a kind of safety check up every year, making sure everything works on the car, like breaks, steering, bumpers etc. My brother works whit this and have given me some warning about some cars.

The first you want to avoid is French cars. Quality is crap on them and they got some weird mechanical solutions for things. Mercedes is also to be avoided. The suspention on them are a deathtrap.. Hyundai and KIA are not especially good in quality and also the newer Volvos means trouble. Opel/Vauxhall floors are vulnerable to corossion and will rust within a few years.

The best manufacturer for passing these tests year after year is Toyota, followed by the other Japaneese cars. Also the Volvo 940 is a good car by means of quality, though I think its engine is kinda thirsty.

So.. If you want quality, go for something Japaneese, like Toyota or maybe a Mazda.
