I found this thread today, it is very informative for servers who will host servers (like us), it's a good read.
You will need to login on the swgemu forums tough to read it, Link -> http://www.swgemu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15335

Also, what are the guessed number of players that we will support online at one time?

If you read the FAQ closely you'll see that Euro-Chimaera is more than capable of hosting a SWG emulator. We probably have the best server specs of all servers out there. And also the best bandwidth. Hinch is also very experienced when it comes to this, so you don't have to worry about us! :)

My personal estimate is around 10k+ registered accounts. We will get more and more users as the time passes. Several of the communities that have announced that they will provide a server lack both hardware and experience. We have both and plan to remain as long as needed! So eventually after some months of up time, we will have lots and lots of players :)

The server specifications in our FAQ thread were posted by Hinch quite a while ago. The earliest record I could find from searching the staff forum indicate that this specification is AT LEAST 20 months old. I don't want to speculate on a time frame for the emu or the resources that Hinch is willing to put at Chimaera's disposal but there is a possibility that they will be improved even further when the emu is released. This should put beyond doubt that quality of service that we will be providing as well how serious this project is to all of us.

Considering how cheap CPU, RAM and HDD's are now, building a pretty hot system wouldnt cost very much at all. Even creating a small server farm is totally possible if everyone dontates a little extra for the first month.

AWESOME!!!
Then it appears that EC is the place to be when an emulator comes out.

some say he bathes in silicon ,

some say he ruthlessly buggered bill gates as a youngster ,

some say he never sleeps and lives on a cocktail of code and calculation ,

alll we know is that he is HINCH

and he are legend

Owning a datacentre must be all kinds of useful.
